Google has opened applications for the Hustle Academy SMB Fund, a N75 million equity-free fund for entrepreneurs. The fund aims to boost the ambitions of Nigerian Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).

Google said in a statement that N5 million will be distributed to 15 Nigerian small company owners as part of its commitment to fostering entrepreneurial growth in Nigeria. According to the tech firm, the investment is based on the idea that small businesses are the backbone of Nigeria's economy, but they face numerous problems, most notably the recurrent challenge of obtaining critical funding.

Mojolaoluwa Aderemi-Makinde, Head of Brand & Reputation, Sub-Saharan Africa at Google, commented on the initiative:
"The Hustle Academy Fund demonstrates the tenacity and innovation of Nigerian small businesses, which are the backbone of our economy." We hope that this investment would help companies flourish and stimulate economic growth, thereby creating jobs and opportunities for all Nigerians."
According to Sinmisola Nojimu-Yusuf, Product Marketing Manager and Hustle Academy Program Lead at Google,
"The Hustle Academy Fund provides SMBs with the resources and support they need to succeed. With equity-free funding, mentorship, and opportunities for increased visibility and networking, we are supporting SMBs to grow and thrive."
How to apply
According to Google, businesses must be Nigerian-founded, operating within Nigeria for 1-5 years, and have a clear and scalable business plan to be eligible for the Hustle Academy SMB Fund.
It stated:
"They should have a track record of commitment to growth, operate in sectors aligned with the digital economy or have a digital enablement strategy, and, while not mandatory, previous participation in the Hustle Academy program is an added advantage." Applications for the Hustle Academy Fund are now being accepted and will close on Thursday, October 12, 2023.
